Dec 2, 2020

Greg Riebe, immediate past Chairman and current Chair of Industry Development, Education and Events has been named Angel Investor of the Year as part of Techboard’s Australian Angel Investor Awards in 2020.

The announcement came as surprise at this year’s Perth Angels Investor Breakfast in October to include its Growth and Diversity Launch at Optus Stadium.

Greg says of the award, “I’m extremely grateful for the recognition that this award gives,” Riebe commented, “and especially pleasing as Perth Angels is celebrating ten years this year. It’s a wonderful reward for the vision that I and my co-founders Jim Tweddle and Ray Hart shared, and the incredible effort by my Perth Angel colleagues who are tirelessly growing the awareness, participation and growth in early-stage high growth ventures in WA, and across Australia.”

A speaker, mentor, adviser and investor, Greg actively contributes to the community and has established a significant profile and reputation with industry, government, higher education sectors and entrepreneurial spaces in WA.

Greg has a unique set of skills that recognises enabling technologies combined with highly scalable business models as fundable high-growth businesses – that he works with, advises and mentors. He says, “Western Australia is generating some amazing emerging technology ventures and there are real opportunities for the WA private investment community to participate in the value they present, as well as grow jobs and diversify our economy.”

In 2000, Greg co-founded Entrepreneurs in Residence Pty Ltd (EiR) to provide support to emerging technology-based businesses with services including investment readiness, capitalisation, breakthrough growth readiness and execution, governance and interim management, and exit and succession planning.

Between 2000 and 2008, EiR had the mandate to manage investment funds on behalf the federal government to invest in information technology start-ups managing an incubator worth 20 million dollars.

It is through Greg’s significant contributions, reputation and ability to attract representation from diverse market participants that he is able to continually inspire leading companies and executives to achieve sustainable growth, manage succession planning and evaluate entry and exit strategies for their business.

Greg provides insights on stages of growth being invited to speak at numerous events on Angel Investing and is often heard commenting that “A great way to get better due diligence on investment opportunities in early-stage ventures is co-investing via an Angel Investor group.”
